Parade

It was the sun that made it ugly  When the streets were proud today  And the wind was growing restless  The seeds had blown away   
It’s something beyond the needles  
And it’s something beyond the string  There’s something to do with nothing  You won’t feel but a sting

short like my fingernailsi want the trees to slough the leaves  from their branches,  brushing them off  like eraser crumbs from paper.

Because I'm  not careful with the sprinkles,  when we make cookies,  the pans come out of the oven  spattered with melted sugar  that feels like  Braille.  I wonder that it might really  say something,  or if it's nothing but  sweetness and color.
